What to expect from a hypnotherapy session?

What is hypnosis?

Generally, people when thinking of hypnosis have seen what’s performed on an entertainment stage; more than likely renowned Darren Brown. However, clinical hypnotherapy differs widely and for a specific purpose- treatment.

During hypnosis, you enter a state of deep concentration where your awareness of your surroundings diminishes. In this focused state, you become more receptive to suggestions, also called "invitations." Your therapist will offer guidance to help you shift from unhelpful beliefs to more constructive ones.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a type of psychological therapy that uses hypnosis to help treat certain mental and physical health conditions Ultimately, It can also be used to change habits

What happens first?

The first stage may be overwhelming, and probably the most difficult, establishing and reaching out to a therapist ( So well done, if you have). The initial stage is an assessment stage, this is a chance for not just the therapist to explore your current difficulties. But, simultaneously, whether you connect and find the therapist the right person for you.

What to expect from a hypnotherapy session?

A standard hypnotherapy session starts with an induction process, where the therapist speaks slowly and gently, offering suggestions to help you relax and focus. This is often done by describing calming scenes, such as resting on a beach or any imagery you find soothing.

Most people in this state feel a deep sense of relaxation sitting there with their eyes closed and listening to the soothing words of the therapist. Some, feel a slight heaviness in their body whilst others feel so relaxed that they just don’t want to move.

Once you reach a deep enough hypnotic state, the therapist will begin making further impactful suggestions designed to shift your perspective in beneficial ways or help you gain clarity on the best path forward for yourself.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

In my opinion, and based on my experience working with others, the most important factor is how you feel and the progress you have made. In my practice, I typically offer a minimum of 6-8 sessions. There is no magic wand, and I always emphasize that this is a process—an investment and a journey in understanding yourself. Through this journey, you will be able to navigate life as a stronger and more confident version of yourself.
